The Mössbauer Community: Fifty years ago Professor Rudolf L. Mössbauer published a paper in
Z. Phys. that initialized a new research area, impacting many segments of the sciences. Research in this area became known as Mössbauer spectroscopy, and has encompassed an international scientific community unto itself. This community is led by the elected members of the
International Board on the Applications of the Mössbauer Effect (IBAME) with support from the
Mössbauer Effect Data Center (MEDC)
Applications: The Mössbauer effect is being used to answer many of the most interesting questions we have in science. Examples include investigations on the surface of
Mars, developing an understanding of the
nano world, and
the study of corrosion.
